Weekly Market Highlights - Aug 13, 2012

Domestic stock prices were higher on the week. The S&P 500 and Dow Industrials continued their rally, marking the fourth consecutive week of gains. The S&P is wavering around the 1400 level for the first time since early May. Global markets were higher on the week . European stocks rose for the ninth consecutive week, continuing its longest such streak in six years. Investors continue to demonstrate an increased penchant for risk assets despite economists decreasing their outlook for battered Eurozone nations in 2013.

Treasury prices declined again this week, and yields rose. Yields on the benchmark 10‐year Treasury rose again this week to levels touching those last seen at the end of June.

Commodity indexes were mixed this week. Precious metals gained during the period. Continued drought concerns , highlighted by a drastic reduction in USDA forecasts for corn production, kept agricultural commodities at elevated price levels.
